Target Information
Canine distemper virus Fusion glycoprotein F0 (F) is a key surface protein of the morbillivirus responsible for viral entry into host cells. As an integral part of the viral envelope, it facilitates the fusion of the viral envelope with the cell membrane, allowing the release of viral genetic material into the host cell. This protein is synthesized as an inactive precursor, F0, which is cleaved into two disulfide-linked subunits, F1 and F2, to become biologically active. In the context of veterinary medicine, F protein is a primary target for vaccine development and is also a significant antigen for immune recognition and neutralization by antibodies. The F protein's structure and function are being studied to understand viral pathogenesis and to develop antiviral strategies against canine distemper virus (CDV) infections.
