Citrobacter freundii is an opportunistic pathogen commonly found in water, soil, food, and the intestines of humans and animals. It is most frequently isolated from dogs and cats with urinary tract infections (UTIs). Citrobacter freundii can cause catheter-related infections, bacteremia, and endocarditis. Dihydroxyacetone kinase catalyzes the phosphorylation of dihydroxyacetone.
