Target Information

In felines, glucose-6-phosphatase catalytic subunit 1 (G6PC1) is an endoplasmic reticulum membrane protein that catalyzes the hydrolysis of glucose-6-phosphate (G6P) to glucose, playing a key role in gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis. G6PC1 is crucial for maintaining glucose homeostasis, especially in promoting hepatic glucose production during fasting. Deficiencies in G6PC1 are associated with Glycogen Storage Disease Type I (GSD-I), characterized by severe hypoglycemia and accumulation of glycogen and fat in the liver and kidneys.
