Target Information

Shigella primarily causes disease in primates and does not affect other mammals. Shigella sonnei is one of the species within the Shigella genus. Alongside Shigella flexneri, it accounts for 90% of shigellosis cases. Flagellar L-ring protein assembles around the rod to form the L-ring and probably protects the motor/basal body from shearing forces during rotation.
