Target Information
Swine inhibin alpha chain (INHA) is a member of the TGF-β superfamily, primarily secreted by granulosa cells in the ovary and Sertoli cells in the testis. It combines with β subunits to form inhibin A (αβA) or inhibin B (αβB), which negatively regulate the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary gland. In swine, research on INHA has shown that its genetic polymorphisms are associated with reproductive traits. For example, in Suhuai pigs, polymorphisms in the 5'UTR region of the INHA gene are significantly correlated with litter size, with GG genotype sows having an average total number of piglets born 0.63 higher than those with the AA genotype (P < 0.05) . Additionally, INHA plays an important role in regulating ovarian function and steroid hormone synthesis .
