Target Information
Vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM1) in swine is a type I transmembrane protein that belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is typically a 100-110 kDa protein with 7 C2 type immunoglobulin domains and functions as a cell adhesion molecule. VCAM1 mediates the adhesion of lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils to vascular endothelium. It serves as an endothelial ligand for integrins of the β1 subfamily VLA-4 (Very Late Antigen-4 or α4β1) and integrin α4β7, and is also expressed on other cell types. VCAM1 plays a role in leukocyte-endothelial cell signaling and is involved in the regulation of osteoclastogenesis through cell-cell contact.
