Aspergillus niger is a type of mold belonging to the Nigri section of the Aspergillus genus. This genus includes a variety of common molds that are widespread in the environment, inhabiting soil, water, vegetation, fecal matter, decaying materials, and even airborne particles. Certain strains of Aspergillus niger are known to produce ochratoxins, a type of mycotoxin that can lead to nephrotoxicity and renal tumors in various animal species.
