Target Information

Candida albicans is an opportunistic pathogenic yeast, frequently causing candidiasis-a typically localized mucocutaneous disease-most commonly attributed to C. albicans. This yeast is often used as a model organism for studying fungal pathogens. Known as a dimorphic fungus, it can grow as yeast or filamentous cells, displaying various morphological phenotypes, such as opaque, GUT, and pseudohyphal forms. In cats and dogs, candidiasis is rare, but it's been linked to oral and upper respiratory diseases, pyothorax, ocular lesions, intestinal issues, and urocystitis. Although infections in adult horses are uncommon, Candida species have been identified as culprits in causing arthritis in horses, and mastitis and abortion in cattle.
