Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) is a financially impactful disease affecting cattle globally. Bovine viral diarrhea viruses (BVDVs) belong to the genus Pestivirus within the family Flaviviridae. There are two recognized genotypes of BVDV, identified through the nucleotide sequence of the 5' untranslated region (UTR): BVDV-1 and BVDV-2. In Europe, BVDV-2 was initially identified in the UK in 2000.
