Marek's disease is a highly contagious viral cancerous disease in chickens. It is caused by an alphaherpesvirus named Marek's disease virus (MDV) or Gallid alphaherpesvirus 2 (GaHV-2). Chickens infected with GaHV-2 can carry and shed the virus throughout their lifetime.
