Target Information

The genus Cryptosporidium, part of the phylum Apicomplexa, includes an unspecified number of parasitic protozoan species. Infection by Cryptosporidium parasites is referred to as cryptosporidiosis. Cryptosporidium meleagridis is the only known species within this genus that infects both avian and mammalian species, and it was originally identified in a wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo).
