Clostridium chauvoei is a Gram-positive, highly pathogenic and strict anaerobic bacterium capable of sporulation. It is the causative agent of blackleg, a severe disease primarily affecting cattle and, to a lesser extent, small ruminants. C. chauvoei exhibits high homogeneity in comparison to its closely related species, C. perfringens, which is a prevalent pathogen impacting humans and various animal species.
