Mycoplasma species are recognized pathogens in human and veterinary medicine. Mammals, especially primates including humans, can harbor similar or even identical Mycoplasma species that may be either commensal or pathogenic. Mycoplasma maculosum can cause mycoplasmosis in dogs.
