Mycoplasma gallinaceum was first described in 1982 as a serovar that ferments glucose but not tetrazolium chloride, and does not hydrolyze arginine or urea, with a low G+C content of 29%. Mycoplasma gallinaceum is not among the most pathogenic mycoplasmas affecting poultry.
