Target Information

Salmonella is a genus of rod-shaped, gram-negative bacteria belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family. This genus comprises two recognized species: Salmonella enterica and Salmonella bongori. These bacteria are commonly found in the digestive systems of humans and animals, particularly reptiles. Staphylococcus aureus, a Gram-positive, spherical bacterium and member of the Bacillota, is typically part of the body's microbiota, often located in the upper respiratory tract and on the skin. It is known to cause various livestock diseases commonly found in pigs, cows, and poultry, including mastitis, joint infections, and skin infections. Escherichia coli O157:H7, commonly known as E. coli O157, is one of the many strains of the bacterium E. coli. While most E. coli strains are harmless and reside in the intestines of healthy humans and animals, the Shiga toxin-producing strain, E. coli O157, can lead to severe illness and even death. Listeriosis predominantly affects feedlot or sheltered ruminants during the winter-spring season. This infectious and potentially fatal disease can impact animals, birds, fish, crustaceans, and humans. It is a significant food-borne zoonotic disease caused by Listeria monocytogenes, an intracellular pathogen with the ability to spread between cells, allowing it to cross barriers such as the blood-brain, intestinal, and placental boundaries.
