Target Information

Porcine circovirus (PCV) is a prevalent virus affecting pigs globally. Known for its small size (~1800 base pairs), circular genome, and environmental resilience, this DNA virus is unique. As of 2018, three strains of PCV have been identified. When pigs are infected with PCV2, they experience viremia of varying lengths, with significant replication and persistence occurring in the macrophages and monocytes of lymphoid organs and the lungs.
