Yellow head virus (YHV) targets the black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon), a key species in global aquaculture. This highly aggressive pathogen is capable of causing complete mortality within days following the initial symptoms of the disease in a pond environment. The disease is attributed to Yellow head virus genotype 1 (YHV1), a positive-strand RNA virus associated with coronaviruses and arteriviruses.
