Target Information
The Salmonid alphavirus (SAV), belonging to the genus Alphavirus and the family Togaviridae, is a single-stranded RNA virus that impacts Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout. This virus is known to cause pancreas disease (PD) and sleeping disease (SD), both of which are growing concerns due to their contribution to high fish mortality rates and economic losses in the aquaculture industry. SAV infection is characterized by severe histopathological changes in the heart, pancreas, and skeletal muscles of affected fish.
