Brucella suis, a Gram-negative coccobacillus belonging to the Brucellaceae family, is responsible for swine brucellosis, a zoonotic disease affecting pigs. A prevalent symptom of this disease is abortion in susceptible pregnant sows, which can occur at any gestational stage. Transmission primarily occurs through the ingestion of infected tissues or fluids, exposure to semen during breeding, and nursing from infected animals.
