Target Information

Thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG) is a globulin protein encoded by the SERPINA7 gene, responsible for binding and transporting thyroid hormones in circulation. Alongside transthyretin and serum albumin, TBG is one of the three transport proteins that carry the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) in the bloodstream. TBG helps maintain thyroid hormone homeostasis by regulating the availability of free hormones. While specific studies on hamster TBG are limited, its role is likely similar to that in other mammals, where it influences thyroid hormone metabolism and signaling. TBG's homology with human and mouse sequences suggests conserved functions across species.
