Target Information

Canine caseinolytic protease P (ClpP) is a mitochondrial serine protease that plays a significant role in protein homeostasis and mitochondrial functionality. It forms a complex with the AAA+ ClpX chaperone, known as ClpXP, which is crucial for degrading misfolded or damaged proteins within the mitochondria. Recent studies indicate that ClpP is upregulated in various tumors and supports tumor cell proliferation. Its overexpression has been linked to desensitization to cisplatin, a chemotherapy drug. Modulators of ClpP activity, both activators and inhibitors, can impair oxidative phosphorylation in cancer cells and induce apoptosis, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target.
