Target Information

HDAC3, or histone deacetylase 3, is a member of the histone deacetylase family, which plays a critical role in the regulation of gene expression. HDAC3 is particularly known for its ability to remove acetyl groups from an ε-N-acetyl lysine amino acid on the histones, a process that leads to chromatin condensation and transcriptional repression. This enzyme is involved in a variety of cellular processes, including cell cycle regulation, differentiation, and apoptosis. The function of HDAC3 extends beyond the nucleus, as it has been found to shuttle between the cytoplasm and nucleus, influencing gene expression patterns in response to various stimuli. Its dysregulation has been implicated in numerous diseases, most notably in cancer, where it is often overexpressed and associated with aggressive tumor growth and resistance to therapy.
