Target Information
Feline serum amyloid A protein (SAA) is a major acute-phase protein, often used as a marker for inflammation in cats. Levels of SAA can reduce after anti-neoplastic treatment in cats with lymphoma. Research has shown that SAA can stimulate the production of MMP-9, promoting cell invasion in feline mammary tumor cells. Furthermore, SAA can function as an endogenous Toll-like receptor 4 agonist. Routine measurement of SAA concentration is suggested to be clinically useful in detecting inflammation, alongside the leukocyte count.
