Porcine leucine aminopeptidase 3 (LAP3) is a metallopeptidase that plays a significant role in various biological processes. It is involved in the hydrolysis of leucine residues from the amino termini of proteins or peptides, contributing to peptide activation and cell cycle regulation. LAP3 is associated with tumor cell proliferation, invasion, and angiogenesis, making it a potential biomarker for diseases such as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Its upregulation in serum and hepatocytes has been observed in NASH patients, indicating its potential as a diagnostic biomarker. In HCC, LAP3's overexpression correlates with poor prognosis, promoting cell proliferation and migration, and it may enhance the sensitivity of HCC cells to chemotherapeutic agents like cisplatin.
