Target Information
Porcine GDP dissociation inhibitor 1 (GDI1) is a regulatory protein that plays a crucial role in the modulation of the Rab family of small GTPases, which are essential for the control of vesicular traffic in cells. GDI1 is involved in the extraction of Rab proteins from membranes and their subsequent inactivation by facilitating the exchange of GDP for GTP, thus regulating the cycling of Rab proteins between active and inactive states. This protein is particularly important in the nervous system, where it influences the dynamics of synaptic vesicles and the process of neurotransmitter release. GDI1's function is also implicated in the regulation of cell growth, differentiation, and the maintenance of cell morphology.
