Target Information

Porcine myosin regulatory light chain 2 (MYL2) is a pivotal component of the myosin molecule that plays a crucial role in muscle contraction. As part of the myosin head, MYL2 interacts with the myosin heavy chain to form the motor unit of the myosin molecule, which is essential for the cross-bridge cycling that generates force during muscle contraction. Phosphorylation of MYL2 by myosin light chain kinase (MLCK) is a key regulatory mechanism that affects muscle contraction velocity and force. This post-translational modification increases the actin-activated MgATPase activity of myosin, enhancing the rate of cross-bridge cycling and thus influencing the speed and force of muscle contraction.
