Target Information
Porcine phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase 2 (pPEPCK2) is a crucial enzyme involved in gluconeogenesis, the process by which glucose is generated from non-carbohydrate sources. This bifunctional protein plays a key role in the metabolic pathways of pigs, contributing to the regulation of blood glucose levels, particularly during periods of fasting, low carbohydrate intake, or high energy demand. pPEPCK2 is predominantly expressed in the liver and, to a lesser extent, in the kidneys. It catalyzes the conversion of oxaloacetate to phosphoenolpyruvate, a rate-limiting step in gluconeogenesis. The activity of this enzyme is tightly regulated by various factors, including hormonal signals such as glucagon, cortisol, and insulin, which respond to the body's energy status.
