Target Information
Porcine nuclear receptor subfamily 2 group E member 3 (NR2E3) is a nuclear hormone receptor gene that is essential for the proper development of retinal rod photoreceptors. This gene plays a critical role in suppressing cone-specific gene expression and activating rod-specific genes, which is vital for the differentiation of photoreceptor cells in the retina. Mutations in the NR2E3 gene can lead to a spectrum of retinopathies, including enhanced S-cone syndrome, Goldmann-Favre syndrome, retinitis pigmentosa, and clumped pigmentary retinal degeneration. A common feature of these diseases is an abnormally high number of cone photoreceptors, particularly the S-cones, which are sensitive to short-wavelength light.
