Target Information

Porcine prostaglandin E synthase 3 (pPTGES3), also known as prostaglandin E2 synthase or microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-2 (mPGES-2), is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of prostaglandin H2 to prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). PGE2 is a potent lipid mediator involved in a variety of physiological processes, including inflammation, pain, and fever, as well as the regulation of vascular tone and gastrointestinal motility. pPTGES3 is expressed in various tissues, with particularly high levels in the brain, spinal cord, and kidneys. It plays a crucial role in the inflammatory response and is a key player in the pathogenesis of pain and fever. The enzyme's activity is regulated by various factors, including cytokines and hormones, which can modulate its expression in response to inflammation or tissue injury.
