Target Information

Sialic acids are a class of alpha-keto acid sugars with a nine-carbon backbone. Sialic acids are found widely distributed in animal tissues. They commonly decorate the end of sugar chains on glycoproteins, glycolipids, or gangliosides at the surface of cells or soluble proteins. Increase of serum sialic acid concentrations during parasitemia alter receptor-ligand interactions, which are known to play important role in immune response.
