Target Information
Chicken parathyroid hormone (PTH) is a critical hormone involved in regulating calcium and phosphate homeostasis in chickens. It is produced by the parathyroid glands and plays a key role in maintaining blood calcium levels by influencing calcium absorption in the intestines, calcium reabsorption in the kidneys, and calcium release from bones. During the egg-laying cycle, PTH expression in the parathyroid glands is elevated during the active phase of eggshell formation, particularly at 18 to 19 hours post-ovulation, when calcium demands are high. This hormone also interacts with other factors such as vitamin D and fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) to fine-tune calcium metabolism.
