Target Information
Bovine keratin, type I cytoskeletal 17 (KRT17) is a member of the keratin family of proteins, which are the major structural components of the cytoskeleton in epithelial cells. In cattle, KRT17 is specifically expressed in the basal layer of the epidermis and plays a role in maintaining the integrity of the skin. It is involved in the formation and maintenance of various skin appendages, particularly in determining the shape and orientation of hair. KRT17 is also required for the correct growth of hair follicles and for sustaining the anagen (growth) state. Additionally, it modulates the function of TNF-alpha in the context of hair cycling and is implicated in tissue repair. The protein may serve as a marker of basal cell differentiation in the skin and could be involved in regulating protein synthesis and epithelial cell growth.
