Target Information
Bovine pregnancy-associated glycoprotein 2 (PAG2) is a member of the aspartic protease family, synthesized by the trophoblast cells of the bovine placenta. It plays a role in early pregnancy diagnosis, as its levels increase throughout gestation and can be detected in maternal circulation. PAG2 may also have immunomodulatory functions, potentially involved in local immunosuppression necessary for the establishment of maternal-fetal histocompatibility. Additionally, it is suggested to have a luteotropic role, influencing the maternal immunological status and possibly contributing to the protection of the conceptus from rejection.
