Target Information
Bovine resistin (RETN) is a hormone that is part of the adipokine family of cytokines. It is primarily produced by adipocytes in mice, but in cattle, as in humans, it is mainly produced by cell populations such as monocytes, macrophages, and bone marrow cells. Resistin plays a role in metabolism and modulates cellular inflammation. It has been implicated in various diseases, including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, and inflammation, with increased plasma concentrations often associated with these states. In cattle, RETN's specific roles are an area of active research, but it is known to be involved in immune function and potentially in the regulation of energy balance and glucose homeostasis, similar to its effects in humans.
