Target Information
Canine adenovirus (CAdV), a pathogen within the Mastadenovirus genus of the Adenoviridae family, is recognized for causing severe viral diseases in dogs across the globe. The CAdVs are divided into two types: CAdV-1, which is responsible for canine infectious hepatitis and fox encephalitis, and CAdV-2, which leads to infectious laryngotracheitis and enteritis. CAdV-2 is characterized by differences in virulence, antigenic structure, infectious potential, and erythrocyte aggregation compared to CAdV-1. Clinical signs in dogs infected with CAdV-2 include persistent high fever, cough, mucinous rhinorrhea, tonsillitis, laryngotracheitis, pneumonia, vomiting, and diarrhea. CAdV-2 is a predominant pathogen in canine viral enteritis. The virus encodes three key capsid proteins: Fiber, Hexon, and Penton. The Fiber protein is instrumental in the infection process by binding the virus to specific cell surface receptors, while the Penton base mediates virus internalization.
