Target Information
In felines, tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (ALPL) is a key enzyme widely found in tissues such as the liver, bones, and kidneys. ALPL plays a crucial role in skeletal mineralization by catalyzing the hydrolysis of phosphate monoesters to provide inorganic phosphate for hydroxyapatite deposition in bones and teeth. It is also involved in cellular signaling and adaptive thermogenesis. Elevated ALPL levels in cats often indicate liver or bone diseases, or endocrine disorders such as cholangitis, hepatic lipidosis, and hyperthyroidism. Thus, ALPL is an important marker for assessing liver and bone health in cats.
