Target Information
In felines, rhodopsin (RHO) is a light-sensitive G protein-coupled receptor in rod photoreceptor cells that initiates the phototransduction cascade under low-light conditions. Composed of opsin and 11-cis-retinal, rhodopsin undergoes a conformational change when exposed to light, activating G protein signaling and triggering nerve impulses. Dysfunction of rhodopsin can lead to retinal dystrophies, such as retinitis pigmentosa.
