Target Information
Gastrokine-1 (GKN1) is an anti-amyloidogenic protein that is abundantly and specifically secreted into the stomach lumen. Unlike a circulating hormone, GKN1 is released into the gut lumen from gastric foveolar epithelial cells. This protein is resistant to protease activity and exhibits remarkable stability, capable of refolding at elevated temperatures and in high concentrations of urea. Such characteristics imply that GKN1 could withstand digestive processes and exert effects beyond the stomach, potentially impacting the intestine. In pigs, this protein is encoded by the GKN1 gene.
