Target Information
Catalase is an enzyme found in nearly all living organisms exposed to oxygen. It is responsible for decomposing hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) into water and oxygen, thereby protecting cells from the harmful effects of hydrogen peroxide. Catalase is encoded by the CAT gene in cattle. It is a ubiquitous enzyme which protects organelles and tissues against hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) toxicity.
