Candida rugosa has been identified as a potential "emerging" fungal pathogen, contributing to an increasing number of Candida infections. Predominantly found in environmental sources, this species is a known cause of bovine mastitis, a significant disease affecting dairy cows. Candida rugosa is particularly prevalent in Latin America, representing 2.7% of Candida isolates, and is also notable in India.
