Target Information

Candida species are commonly found as part of the microbiota in healthy humans and animals, acting as both commensal organisms and facultative pathogens. While C. albicans and C. glabrata are typically associated only with warm-blooded hosts, other infectious Candida species are also found in the environment. Infections generally arise from strains that have already colonized the host, rather than through vertical or longitudinal transfer, resulting in a low zoonotic potential.
