Target Information
Microsporum canis is a pathogenic, asexual fungus belonging to the phylum Ascomycota. It primarily infects the outer, dead skin layers of domesticated cats, but can also affect dogs and humans. As a zoophilic dermatophyte, it typically colonizes the surface of animal bodies. Infections caused by M. canis are often linked to alopecia in cases of tinea capitis, while ringworm infections in pets result in characteristic inflammatory lesions, which may or may not lead to hair loss.
