Target Information

Plasmodium is a genus of single-celled eukaryotes that function as obligate parasites in both vertebrates and insects. The life cycles of Plasmodium species require development within a blood-feeding insect host, which subsequently transmits the parasites to a vertebrate host during a blood meal. These parasites infect red blood cells in mammals (including humans), as well as in birds and reptiles.
