Target Information

Shigella sonnei is a species within the Shigella genus. Alongside Shigella flexneri, it accounts for 90% of shigellosis cases. Infections can lead to symptoms such as acute fever, severe abdominal cramping, cramping rectal pain, nausea, watery diarrhea, or the presence of blood, mucus, or pus in the stool, typically appearing 1-7 days after exposure to the bacteria.
