Target Information

Canine cytochrome B5 reductase 3 (CYB5R3) is a flavoprotein that plays a crucial role in regulating cellular redox balance and is involved in the reduction of substrates such as heme and coenzyme Q. It is highly compartmentalized within cells and functions as a "redox switch". CYB5R3 is associated with type II methemoglobinemia, cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease in dogs. The enzyme is also implicated in the modulation of soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) redox state and cGMP signaling, which is critical for NO-stimulated cGMP production and vasodilation. Therefore, CYB5R3 is not only a significant player in maintaining cellular homeostasis but also a potential target for therapeutic interventions in various diseases in canine medicine.
