Target Information
Chicken lambda (CHλ), also known as chicken lysozyme, is an enzyme that plays a crucial role in the innate immune system of chickens. It is a component of the acute-phase proteins, which are produced in response to inflammation or infection. CHλ is capable of breaking down the cell walls of certain bacteria, particularly gram-positive bacteria, by catalyzing the hydrolysis of β-1,4-glycosidic bonds between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine. This enzyme is found in various secretions, such as tears, saliva, and egg whites, as well as in the cytoplasm of various cells, where it contributes to the first line of defense against invading pathogens. The activity of CHλ is an essential part of the inflammatory response and helps to clear bacteria from the body.
