Target Information
Porcine ST6 beta-galactosamide alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase 1 (ST6GAL1) is an enzyme that catalyzes the addition of sialic acid to galactose residues in glycoproteins and glycolipids. This process, known as sialylation, is a crucial modification in the biosynthesis of glycoconjugates, affecting protein stability, immune responses, and cell signaling. In pigs, ST6GAL1 plays a role in immune cell function, particularly in modulating the activity of the immune system. It has been shown to selectively modify N-glycans on CD45, negatively regulating galectin-1-induced CD45 clustering and T cell death. This suggests that ST6GAL1 may be involved in the regulation of immune responses and could potentially be a target for therapies aimed at modulating immunity.
