Target Information
Canine glucose transporter Type 4 (cGLUT4) is a vital membrane protein in dogs, responsible for the insulin-regulated glucose uptake into skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. This transporter is instrumental in maintaining glucose homeostasis, as it responds to insulin signaling by translocating from intracellular vesicles to the cell surface, thereby increasing glucose transport into the cell. cGLUT4's function is critical for the management of blood sugar levels, particularly after meals when insulin levels rise. The efficient operation of cGLUT4 helps prevent hyperglycemia and supports energy utilization and storage in muscle and fat cells. Disruptions in cGLUT4 function can contribute to the development of canine diabetes mellitus, a condition that affects both dogs and their human counterparts.
