Target Information

Canine matrix metallopeptidase 2 (MMP-2), also known as gelatinase A or type-IV collagenase, is a zinc-dependent enzyme that plays a significant role in the proteolytic degradation of the extracellular matrix (ECM). It is particularly involved in tumor invasion and metastasis by degrading type IV collagen of the basement membrane. Additionally, MMP-2, along with its specific tissue inhibitor TIMP-2, may serve as a valuable prognostic indicator in canine oronasal cavity tumors. The enzyme's activity is further regulated by other MMPs and membrane-type MMPs (MT-MMPs), such as MT1-MMP, which is expressed on tumor cell surfaces and is crucial for the activation of proMMP-2.
