Target Information
Feline serum amyloid A is an acute-phase protein found in the blood of cats. It is a major component of the acute-phase response, which is a systemic reaction to inflammation, tissue damage, or infection. fSAA is structurally similar to human serum amyloid A (SAA) and shares similar functions. The primary function of fSAA is to modulate the inflammatory response. It is involved in a variety of processes, including the recruitment of immune cells to sites of inflammation, regulation of the vascular permeability, and promotion of the clearance of apoptotic cells. fSAA also plays a role in the pathogenesis of amyloidosis, a condition characterized by the extracellular deposition of insoluble amyloid fibrils.
